Aunt Rhea's Maple Pecan Bars

Serves 4-6

INGREDIENTS:

Base:

  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour

Topping:

  • 1 cup maple syrup, at room temp.
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp flour

Preheat the oven to 350°. To make the base, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar and flour and press into a small cake pan (10x10 or 8x11).

Bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside. Set oven temperature to 400°.

To make the topping, add the beaten eggs to the maple syrup, stirring constantly. Add remaining topping ingredients and mix well. Spread over the base.

Bake for 5 minutes at 400°. Reduce the temperature to 350° and bake an additional 30 minutes, or until set.
